Deep Driller 1 Rig Bound for Mexican Waters

India’s Aban Offshore  has secured a contract for its jack-up rig Deep Driller 1. The company’s shares rose 2.00% following the announcement.

The rig will be deployed in Mexican waters on a 1115 days long contract. The company, without revealing the name of the client, has said that the estimated value of the contract is $177 million.

The contract is expected to start in July 2013. The Deep Driller 1 rig, capable of operating in water depths of 375 ft was built by PPL Shipyard in Singapore in 2006.

This is the second drilling contract in Mexico for Aban Offshore secured this week. The company on Monday announced a contract for its Deep Driller 7  rig.

It is believed that the client is the Mexican national oil company, Pemex.
