Deepsea Stavanger Rig Stays with BP in Angola

Odfjell Drilling has announced that British oil company BP has exercised a one-year option for use of Deepsea Stavanger semi-submersible drilling rig.

The extension will keep the rig with BP in Angola as a minimum until November 2014.

Deepsea Stavanger has been drilling under contract with BP Angola since 2011. The rig is currently drilling and completing production wells on the Greater Plutonium field in Block 18. The contract has another 2 one-year options.

The unit is is a sixth generation deepwater and harsh environment semisubmersible rig. It is, along with its sister rig Deepsea Atlantic, is a state of the art dual derrick, dynamic-positioned unit of enhanced GVA 7500 design. The rig is designed for operations in harsh environments and water depths up to 3000 metres.
