Deregistration of Iranian Vessels Continues

The China Classification Society (CCS) has become the last classification provider, among the members of International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), which has ceased to provide its services to Iranian vessels due to sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States over Teheran’s nuclear program, Reuters reports.

Despite these decisions China remains the biggest buyer of Iranian oil alongside with South Korea.

The recently announced deregistering of Iranian vessels from Hong Kong’s shipping register has been partially implemented. Namely five of nineteen Iranian vessels were deflagged.
