Disabled Freighter Closes Bosphorus

Bosphorus Strait has been closed to marine traffic today after a general cargo ship lost propulsion and blocked the shipping lanes near the first bridge area, according to GAC.

The 94-metre, Malta-flagged vessel M/V Lady Hayat suffered an engine malfunction while en route from Turkey’s Port of Tuzla to Novorossiysk, Russia.

The VesselFinder positions the Lady Hayat off Istanbul, at the mouth of the Bosphorus. It is unclear if the freighter left the Strait under its own propulsion or it was towed.

Lady Hayat is a 5,826 dwt, 1995-built general cargo ship operated by Turkey’s GN Group.
