Dredger “Pat M” on Its Way to Venezuela

The self-propelled backhoe dredger “Pat M”, owned by Humber Work Boats, is on its way to Venezuela.

The main reason for this trip is helping Venezuela to improve its port infrastructure. “Pat M” will be used for the port of La Guaira expansion project, according to thisishullandeastriding.co.uk.

David Symon, managing director of the Humber Work Boats, stated: “Although the vessel has worked in Portugal, Spain, Algeria, Morocco, the Canary Islands, Mallorca, and the Azores, she has never before been mobilised aboard ship. We decided to send the Pat M to Venezuela because sizeable dredging contracts had largely dried up in Europe… We had found work for her since the start of the recession by exploiting the growth in port infrastructure in North Africa, but the opportunities in South America were difficult to ignore. Prospects of winning additional contracts in places like Peru, Brazil and Venezuela are good too.”

La Guaira is the capital city of the Venezuelan state of Vargas. This is the country’s chief port, located about 20 miles from the Venezuelan capital Caracas.
