DSME Confirms USD 1.76 Bln Mariner Topside Award

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in a filing with the Korea Exchange confirmed it has secured an order for the construction of a topside for a platform to be installed in the UK sector of the North Sea.

The order, valued at approximately USD 1.76 billion, comes from the Norwegian oil giant, Statoil. Under the agreement, Daewoo will build a topside for the Mariner project production, drilling and quarters (PDQ) platform. According to the filing, the topside is expected to be delivered in mid-January, 2016.

Upon delivery, the topside will be shipped to the UK Shetland basin, where the oil field is located. The topside will then be installed on a steel jacket, 150 km east of the Shetlands.

The contract for the construction of the jacket has been awarded to Dragados Offshore S.A., who will cooperate with UK-based company SNC Lavalin Ltd. on detailed engineering. According to Statoil, the estimated total value for the PDQ and jacket is approximately USD 1.93 billion.
