DSME orders Alfa Laval tech for six LNG newbuilds

Alfa Laval informed it has won its first order for a completely new and very robust compact heat exchanger for gas-fuel conditioning from the Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

The order, booked in the Marine & Diesel Equipment segment, has a value of approximately SEK 24 million and deliveries will start already this year and are expected to be completed in 2016, the company said in a statement.

The innovative compact Alfa Laval heat exchanger, a new addition to the marine portfolio for alternative fuels, can handle temperatures and pressures far beyond other welded plate heat exchangers. In this case, they will have a dual functionality since they will be installed onboard six LNG carriers to be built by DSME. There, they will re-liquefy the boil-off gas from the tanks and simultaneously condition the fuel gas for the engine. The new Alfa Laval heat exchangers are also very well suited for other gas-driven vessel types, such as tankers, container ships etc.
