DSME to unveil FSPP concept

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) said it plans to introduce a new convergence product named Floating Storage Power Plant (FSPP) during the Power-Gen International Conference this coming December.

FSPP is a gas-fired power plant and an LNG import terminal combined into one unit. Inside are LNG storage tanks and regasification facilities, and regasified natural gas from its own facilities is utilized for its electricity power generation. Moreover, FSPP can directly supply its regasified gas to the designated on-land infrastructures, such as natural gas pipelines or adjacent onshore plants.

Additionally, FSPP can be a solution for areas where local infrastructures are not sufficient to utilize natural gas as a power generation fuel. Major functions of a gas-fired power plant are onboard, so required land acquisition is at a minimum compared to an onshore power plant. This means developers can mitigate project risk by reducing a potential claims from local communities and avoiding hard negotiation with land owners.

DSME will also display another floating power solution: Barge Mounted Power Plants (BMPP). Also known as Power Barge, it can generate power from different fuel resources, such as natural gas, diesel oil and coal.
