EGAS expecting delays in LNG import terminal

Egypt is reportedly expecting a delay in delivery of an LNG import terminal that should help fight the worst energy crisis in years in the country.

Egypt can export LNG but without the instalation of the import terminal it can not fight the gas supply shortage that is causing power cuts.

An agreement to use the Hoegh LNG FSRU for five years had been reached earlier between Hoegh LNG and Egypt’s oil ministry.

“We haven’t yet reached a final agreement with Hoegh. The terminal will not arrive in September as had been announced before. It will arrive in October or November,”  Reuters cited an unnamed source at EGAS as saying.

Certain obstacles that delayed the delivery of the FSRU are expected to be overcome during the visit of Hoegh LNG to Egypt.

Egypt’s Oil Minister Sherif Ismail said that the previous agreement with Norwegian company was a preliminary agreement and that a lot more had to be done before the terminal would start operating.
