Egypt: Offshore rig on fire

A fire broke out on an offshore platform in Egypt today, spurring a crew evacuation, Aswat Masriya, an Egyptian news website has reported.

The news website, citing sources in the country’s petroleum ministry, has said that the fire has been localized and isolated from the rest of the rig.

The fire reportedly broke out in the engine room. Nobody was injured in the incident, Aswat Masriya reported, quoting Atef Hassan, the chairman of Petrobel, a company that runs the oil rig.

According to the report, the rig is situated in the Red Sea, 35 kilometers south of the coast of South Sinai.

Offshore Energy Today has contacted the Ministry of Petroleum of Egypt and will update the article if we hear back.
