Elbe River Dredging Contract Awarded

Wasser und Schifffahrtsamt Cuxhaven has awarded the Elbe River dredging contract to the Heinrich Hirdes GmbH.

This major deepening program includes dredging works with a suction hopper dredger for the conservation and restoration of the required depth and width of the fairway on the Lower and Outer Elbe.

The main goal of this dredging project is widening of the navigation channel to between 300 m and 320 m for the accommodation of 14.5 m deep container ships.

During the Elbe River dredging program, the contractor will remove about 28 million m³ of material from the mentioned areas.

The completion period of this 89,379,698 EUR venture is 3 years.
