Energy Modernization Act of 2014 Opens Doors for Growth in NC

North Carolina Petroleum Council (NCPC) Executive Director David McGowan welcomed Governor Pat McCrory’s signing of the Energy Modernization Act of 2014 which officially opened the door for the use of hydraulic fracturing in developing the state’s natural gas resources.

“Today’s announcement is a game-changer that could result in years of affordable natural gas supply for North Carolina families. It also positions the state to provide many new high-paying jobs and a bright economic future for hard working North Carolinians.

“We are encouraged by the governor’s focus on shale energy. Our industry shares the governor’s desire for progress and will continue to work with his administration to advance smart regulatory and economic policies that can revitalize North Carolina’s economy.”

NCPC is a division of API, which represents all segments of America’s oil and natural gas industry. Its more than 600 members produce, process, and distribute most of the nation’s energy. The industry also supports 9.8 million U.S. jobs and 8 percent of the U.S. economy.
