Environmental groups request construction halt at Cove Point

Environmental groups moved for an immediate stay of two orders of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that allow Dominion Cove Point LNG to construct and operate an LNG export terminal in rural Calvert County.

According to petitioners EarthReports (Patuxent Riverkeeper), Sierra Club and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, they have already been harmed by project related construction and need immediate relief to prevent further injury.

Petitioners filed the emergency motion to stay FERC’s orders and halt the construction on Dominion’s Cove Point LNG export terminal and also requested expedited consideration of their petition.

The groups request the decision to be made by June 17, the date by which Dominion has sought permission to begin constructing foundations, to avoid further irreparable harm they said in their request.
