ERMA FIRST Gets Technical Achievement Award at Greek Shipping Awards 2013

ERMA FIRST S.A., the Piraeus based Ballast Water Treatment Vendor, was honored with the Technical Achievement Award from Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards 2013. The glamorous 10th Anniversary of LLOYD’S List Greek Shipping Awards 2013, which hosted over thousand distinguished guests from the shipping industry, was held in Athenaeum Intercontinental. This distinction is a milestone at ERMA FIRST’s rising course.

Undoubtedly this prize is a prominent recognition for a technological achievement that was never before performed in maritime industry! The hydrocyclonic method that ERMA FIRST Ballast Water Treatment Systems use is a unique method. No other ballast water treatment system uses similar technology for extreme sediment removal and effective disinfection of ballast water. ERMA FIRST’s engineers have developed a unique device for treating sea water, gaining the respect and admiration of the Maritime Community. This award comes right on time, to endorse that ERMA FIRST is a leading company in ballast water treatment production with an exceptional and world class system which will break the accustomed and ordinary technologies on ballast water treatment.

Accepting the award on the behalf of ERMA FIRST, Mrs Helen Polychronopoulou, Executive Vice President of EPE S.A. (Environmental Protection Engineering SA), parent company of ERMA FIRST after expressing her gratitude to the esteemed judging panel of LLOYDS LIST, stated “This is a very special moment for ERMA FIRST as well as for Environmental Protection Engineering, a pioneer in its field. After 30 years of manufacturing equipment for ships with more than 5,000 successful installations worldwide we have developed ERMA FIRST BWTS, which was honored with this precious prize”.

Mr. Konstantinos Stampedakis ERMA FIRST Managing Director, who jointly received the award, expressed his feelings of gratitude towards the Greek Shipping Community. He also stated: “At ERMA FIRST we have compiled an extremely qualified team of 10 Greek scientists and engineers who have invested more than 12,000 hours of scientific research and testing, collected 3,000 samples for analysis and wrote 8,000 pages of Technical Documentation for the certification process, to make this project successful. We have been working non-stop over the last 5 years in order to convert an innovative idea into a real product. It is a Greek system made by Greeks who share the same passion to create innovative marine technology with respect to the ship and the seafarer. The growing competition in the global market is always a challenge but also this is what is fueling our drive to continue developing exceptional technologies for the benefit of the ship and the sea environment”.

Both representatives also warmly thanked the KOSTANTAKOPOULOS family for the support of COSTAMARE who provided C/V Cosco Guangzhou for ERMA FIRST’s first onboard installation back in 2010.

ERMA FIRST delivers a world class system with excellent performance on ballast water treatment breaking the ordinary and providing a high standard technology like no other. During 2013, ERMA FIRST has successfully completed a wide range of installations of its Ballast Water Treatment System in China, Korea, Japan, India, Turkey and Greece.
