EU Earmarks EUR 14.8 Million for Viking Link
On 15 July, EU Member States agreed on the European Commission’s proposal to invest EUR 263 million in key trans-European energy infrastructure projects, including EUR 14.8 million for Viking Link, an interconnector between Denmark and the UK.
The EU will support study work on the Final Project Development for the Viking link with a total of EUR 14,824,179.
Viking Link is a proposal to build a high voltage direct current (HVDC) electricity interconnector, 740 kilometres long, between Bicker Fen in Lincolnshire, Great Britain and the substation Revsing in southern Jutland, Denmark.
The interconnector would enable more effective use of renewable energy, access to sustainable electricity generation and improved security of electricity supplies.
It is being developed in co-operation between National Grid Viking Link Ltd and Energinet.dk, the Danish electricity transmission system operator.
