EVOL LNG Wins 2010 Transport Industry Award for Innovation (Australia)

EVOL LNG has won the Department of Mines & Petroleum Resources Safety – Dangerous Goods Innovation Company of the Year Award at the Transport Forum WA 2010 Industry Awards.

The award recognises excellence in implementing a creative solution to a dangerous goods transport safety issue. EVOL LNG won the award for its innovative approach to the transport and handling of LNG on Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDV) to remote mine sites and HDV refuellers, and for the use of LNG as a fuel for HDV’s.

Commenting on winning the award, Bill Hazell, LNG Sales Manager, West Coast, said, “We are delighted to accept this award which promotes industry excellence and professionalism in the Western Australian Road Transport Industry. Naming our LNG business as Dangerous Goods Innovation Company of the Year recognises the commitment and work of the EVOL LNG team.

Over the last few years, they have worked hard to prove the commercialisation of LNG in the Australian market and to achieve the economic and environmental benefit that comes from consuming LNG.” Since LNG has only been introduced to the WA market on a major scale in the past two years, there is a recognised need to raise the level of training, knowledge and awareness of all who could come into contact with an incident involving LNG.

To achieve this need, EVOL LNG has been at the forefront of LNG training programs by:

• establishing TAFE training programs on LNG powered vehicles

• training workshop operators on standards required to work on LNG vehicles and tankers

• training LNG drivers and operators on basic characterises of LNG and how to respond to any LNG incident

• training FESA and other emergency response services personnel on basic characterises of LNG and how to respond to any LNG incident

Bill Hazell used his thank you speech at the Awards night as an opportunity to acknowledge and thank foundation customers Sands Fridge Lines, Mitchell Corp, Sita Environmental and WA Freightlines for their contribution to the EVOL LNG business. Their initial support allowed EVOL LNG to establish LNG as recognised HDV fuel in WA.
