Federal Cabinet of Pakistan Approves LNG Imports

Federal Cabinet of Pakistan approved a policy for the import of liquefied natural gas and an LNG terminal would be constructed in Karachi in accordance with the project, according to local media reports.

This was announced during today’s federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, said that the LNG project in Karachi would be completed within the year and that the first LNG shipment could be expected in 2015.

The terminal will be able to handle 200 million cubic feet of gas per day in the first phase, and 400 mmcfd in the second phase.
