Filipino Crewman Medevaced From Bulker off South Africa

The South African National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) medically evacuated a sailor from a bulk carrier in Table Bay, off Cape Town, on May 4.

NSRI Table Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following a request for medical assistance from the bulker.

The Filipino crewman was transferred to hospital after suffering a dislocated shoulder in what NSRI described as relatively rough sea conditions.

The agency deployed two sea rescue craft with rescue paramedics to rendezvous with the ship at Anchorage 2 in the Table Bay.

The 45 year old sailor was secured into a hoisting harness and transferred onto one of the sea rescue craft. NSRI further said the patient was brought to its sea rescue station before being transported to hospital for further care.
