First Borkum Riffgrund 2 Turbine In Place

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up vessel Bold Tern installed the first MHI Vestas 8MW wind turbine at Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea on 5 May.

Utilizing the MAX Power upgrade, each turbine will run at a 8.3MW maximum capacity, according to MHI Vestas.

The 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm will comprise a total of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines installed on 20 suction bucket jackets and 36 monopile foundations, the first of which was installed in March. The offshore wind project, located next to Borkum Riffgrund 1, is scheduled for commissioning in 2019.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier won the contract to transport and install the turbines at the wind farm site some 57km off the north-west coast of Germany in June 2016.
