First Hornsea One OSS Topside Hits the Water

The Hornsea Project One offshore substation topside Z12 has been loaded onto a barge and is awaiting sail out to the installation site some 120 kilometres off Yorkshire, UK.

The Z12 topside is the first of the three units to arrive at Bladt Industries’ facilities in Aalborg, Denmark, for Ørsted’s 1.2GW Hornsea One project.

The three 2,800-ton offshore substations will collect electricity generated by the wind farm’s 174 Siemens 7MW wind turbines.

In May 2016, Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime won a contract to build three offshore substations for Hornsea Project One. Semco Maritime is responsible for LV electrical works, including E&I, design, onshore construction and offshore commissioning. Bladt Industries is producing steel structures for all three substations.

Once operational in 2020, Hornsea One will become the largest operating wind farm in the world.
