First Hywind Scotland Foundation Put Together (Photos)
Navantia-Windar today assembled the first foundation for the Hywind Scotland floating wind farm, with the construction of the remaining four well underway, the Spanish joint venture company informed.
Load-out and transportation of the foundations will be carried out in subsequent trips in the second quarter of 2017.
The update from Spain comes after today’s announcement that Masdar will take 25% in the five-turbine floating wind project.
The contract for fabrication of the foundations was awarded to the Navantia-Windar joint venture by Statoil’s subsidiary Hywind Scotland Ltd. in June 2015.
The launching weight of the floating foundations is around 3,200t, including more than 1,000t of high density concrete.
The foundations will house five Siemens SWT-6.0-154 direct drive offshore wind turbines and, once built, the Hywind Scotland project will be the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm.
