First Kaombo FPSO turret ready for integration

First Kaombo FPSO turret ready for integrationDutch-based FPSO systems manufacturer Bluewater has informed that the first of the two turrets for FPSOs being built for Total’s Kaombo project offshore Angola, is ready for integration.

Additionally, Bluewater Energy Services has reached a milestone of 2 million man-hours worked without any incident or injury at the fabrication yard, where the company builds the two large deep-water turrets. According to the company, the turrets are among the largest and most complex turrets ever designed and built.

The image above, shared by Bluewater, shows the turret loaded onto a transportation vessel and ready to be delivered to Saipem, the Italian company responsible for procurement, installation and commissioning of two Floating Production Storage and Offloading units for the Kaombo Field development project.

Saipem was awarded a $4 billion contract for the delivery of two FPSOs following the final investment decision made by Total in April 2014. Total then said that first oil from the $16 billion project would be reached in 2017.

The Kaombo project will develop six of the 12 discoveries already made on Block 32 offshore Angola. The six fields (Gengibre, Gindungo, Caril, Canela, Mostarda and Louro) cover an area of 800 km2 in the central and southeast part of the block are connected via 300 km of subsea pipelines to two FPSO units: Kaombo Norte and Kaombo Sul.

Water depths in the development reach between 1,400 and 1,950 meters. Total is the operator with 30 percent, with the partners being Sonangol P&P, Sonangol Sinopec International, Esso and Galp.
