First Navantia Jacket on Its Way to Wikinger Site

The first of 29 Navantia’s jacket foundations for Wikinger offshore wind farm has set sail from Spain and is heading to the Baltic Sea, ScottishPower informed via social media.

The foundations for Iberdrola’s 350MW offshore wind farm in Germany are being constructed at the Navantia facilities in Fene, Northern Spain. The first jacket, weighing 625t, was loaded last week by ALE in Ferrol, Spain.

Wikinger will comprise 70 foundations, supporting Adwen’s 5MW wind turbines, with Bladt Industries in charge of supplying the remaining 41 jackets.

The installation of the first foundations at the offshore wind farm site started in April.

The EUR 1.4 billion Wikinger is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2017.
