First Subsea Shields WindFloat Atlantic Export Cables

First Subsea has delivered the cable protection system for the beach landing export cables on the WindFloat Atlantic floating wind project in Portugal.

According to the UK-based company, the cable protection system is designed to suit the export cable and consists of clamps, bellmouth and cable protection.

Hengtong Group was in charge of delivering the export cable for the project, which was installed by its contractor DeepOcean this summer.

First Subsea also delivered Platform Mooring Connectors (PMCs) for the 25MW project.

“We are pleased to be part of two different scopes on this project, having supplied the platform mooring connectors to the Windplus floating platforms supplied by Principle Power,” said Sales and Business Development Director Greg Campbell-Smith.

WindFloat Atlantic will comprise a total of three 8.4MW MHI Vestas turbines, the first of which was installed at the site some 20km off the coast of Viana do Castelo in October. The two other units are expected to be installed by the end of this year.

The project is led by the Windplus consortium, comprising EDP Renewables (54.4%), Engie (25%), Repsol (19.4%), and Principle Power Inc. (1.2%).
