Floating Power Plant expands board of directors

Danish company Floating Power Plant has appointed Ulrikke Ekelund as a new member of its board of directors.

This marks an important step in the execution of the strategy to position Floating Power Plant among the global leaders within floating offshore wind and wave industries, according to the company.

Ulrikke Ekelund holds the position of Senior Vice President, Head of Communication and Media at PensionDenmark, and will together with Floating Power Plant’s existing board members and senior management be involved in the company’s business development.

“We are proud to welcome Ulrikke and are confident that her many years of experience as an active board member and senior communication professional, will be essential in our joint efforts to push Floating Power Plant to new heights”, Floating Power Plant said in a statement.

Ulrikke Ekelund added: “I’m very happy to join the board and look forward to working with the passionate and ambitious people of Floating Power Plant. With a unique clean tech solution combining a floating platform for wind with wave energy, Floating Power Plant has set out on an exciting journey in a time where green investments are essential if we are to realize the goals of the Paris Agreement”.

Floating Power Plant is developing a commercial-scale version of its P80 platform, which features a floating wind turbine, combined with a wave energy extraction technology.

The company has recently conducted trials on the 1:30 scale model of the P80 platform in a basin at Aalborg University, performing over 400 tests, with both wind turbine and wave absorbers put in action.

Basin tests were carried out using a thruster fan that is installed at the top of the wind turbine tower, to recreate the variable wind force generated by a 10MW wind turbine, Floating Power Plant informed on social media.

The company said the results of the tests would be shared following the analysis of the acquired data.

When it comes to real sea environment testing, the commercial-scale P80 wind-wave hybrid might be deployed off Canary Islands at Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN).
