Fluxys, Gazprom join forces on small-scale LNG

Fluxys, the operator of the Zeebrugge liquefied natural gas terminal informed on Tuesday it has signed a framework agreement on small-scale LNG cooperation in the European market with Gazprom.

Fluxys managing director and CEO, Pascal De Buck and Gazprom’s deputy chairman Alexander Medvedev agreed at a meeting in Paris to collaborate on joint projects for the construction of LNG receiving terminals, LNG filling stations and bunkering infrastructure in Europe, Fluxys said in a statement.

Medvedev noted that the small-scale LNG is one of the key growth areas in European gas consumption and Gazprom is seeking diversification of its export potential through the development of the sector.

Pascal De Buck of Fluxys said that developing the small-scale LNG infrastructure could further “mitigate the environmental and health impact of shipping, long-haulage transport by truck and remote industrial sites not connected into a pipe gas network.”
