Update: Hammerfest LNG production restart unknown

Statoil, the operator of the Hammerfest LNG facility, is still unable to estimate the date when production will resume at its facility on Melkøya Island off northern Norway.

The company stopped operations at the liquefaction facility on Tuesday after a gas leak.

The workers at the plant have been evacuated after the gas alarm was triggered.

At the moment we can not estimate when production will resume,” Statoil’s spokesman Ørjan Heradstveit told LNG World News in an e-mailed statement.

Statoil’s Hammerfest LNG facility is Europe’s biggest liquefaction plant and uses gas from the Snøhvit development in the Barents Sea.

It has the capacity to produce 4.3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of the chilled gas.
