Gazprom: Germany ups Russian gas purchases by 68 pct in May

Germany, a major importer of Russian gas, increased its purchases of the fuel by 68 percent in May, as compared to the same month in 2014, Gazprom’s CEO, Alexey Miller said on Monday.

This points to the fact that the demand for Russian gas is growing and there is no doubt that the issue of new contacts on long-term Russian gas supplies to the European market is on the agenda of talks with our European partners,” Miller said during a meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

Miller also informed Putin that the situation on the gas market in 2015 “is considerably better than at the end of 2014.”

As for the domestic market, we observe a minor growth in consumption there,” Miller added.
