GCT Closes Deltaport Terminal amid Hazmat Incident

Canada’s port operator Global Container Terminals (GCT) suspended gate operations at its Deltaport terminal on Monday amid a potentially hazardous material coming from a container.

“GCT Deltaport gate operations are shut down due to terminal incident. We will advise once operations resume,” the port operator said in a tweet.

A worker had reportedly detected an unknown material coming from a container on board a ship, which resulted in shutting down of the terminal as a precaution measure, local media informed citing a GCT spokesperson.

As informed, Delta fire department and a third party contractor were dispatched to the scene to investigate the container on a vessel that was berthed at the terminal.

World Maritime News is yet to receive a comment from the company regarding the incident.

Based on the latest update from GCT the operations have been resumed.
