Goa Shipyard Launches CSR Project

In an effort to enhance the livelihood opportunities in the region through increasing milk production, a Dairy Cooperative Project as a CSR initiative of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) with National CSR hub as the executing agency was inaugurated at Korgao, Pernem, Goa, India on 9th July, 2013.

Shri Rajendra Arlekar, Honorable Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, inaugurated the project in the presence of RAdm. (Retd.) Vineet Bakhshi, VSM, Chairman & Managing Director, GSL, Dr. Benjamin Braganca, Director Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Govt. of Goa. Shri Deepak Kalangutkar, ZP Member, Shri Pandari Arolkar, Sarpanch, Korgao, Shri Suryaji Naik, Sarpanch, Ibrampur and officials of the State Govt. and GSL were also present on the occasion.

This pilot project based on collective farming model undertaken in Pernem Taluka is aimed at empowering the community to enhance their existing practices of income generation through entrepreneurial development programmes. Besides, the project targets development of alternative sources of income in villages which are sustainable in the long run.

Addressing the gathering Shri Rajendra Arlekar lauded GSL for spearheading such community initiative. Shri Arlekar expressed hope that this pilot project shall lay the road map for generating employment opportunities and enhancing income levels in the villages especially for small and marginal farmers.

Speaking on the occasion RAdm (Retd.) Vineet Bakhshi, VSM, CMD, GSL said that the vision is to enhance the quality of life of the members of the co-operative and contribute towards making Goa self sufficient in milk production.

CMD further said: “GSL has entered into a memorandum of agreement for this project which would see it developed into a sustainable project”.
