Piraeus, Thessaloniki Port Operations Affected by Strike

The 24 hour general strike of Greek Labor Unions started today and as a result, no vessels are  berthing or sailing from any Greek ports, due to the towage and port workers’ participation in the strike, ISS Greece reported.

The Greek Labor Unions Confederation, Public Servants Unions Confederation, Crew Union of Towage and Stevedores at the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki, have confirmed that they will be joining the strike.

“Channel passages and vessels’ berthing and un-berthing procedures are therefore expected to be affected, and there will also be no cargo movements for vessels at the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki,” ISS said.

The strike will be staged from 06:00 on Thursday, November 27 to 06:00hrs Lt on Friday, 28 November.

The strike comes in the wake of announced redundancies in the public sector and a potential wave of new wage cuts.
