Heerema Fabrication to build Hollandse Kust Noord substation jacket

Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) has secured a contract with Iemants, a subsidiary of Smulders, to construct the offshore transformer jacket for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind project.

Construction, which will take place at the HFG Vlissingen yard, is expected to begin this month and be completed in September.

According to Heerema, the jacket will be 44 meters tall and will consist of 1,600 tons of steel.

TenneT selected the ENGIE Fabricom – Iemants joint venture to construct the offshore substation for Hollandse Kust Noord through a European tender procedure last year.

Iemants is responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the steel structures for both the topside and the jacket, while ENGIE Fabricom is responsible for the engineering, procurement, integration, construction and testing of all LV, MV, HV, and auxiliary systems.

The Hollande Kust Noord offshore wind project will be built by the CrossWind consortium between Shell and Eneco, which won the tender in the summer of 2020.

Located some 18.5 km off the Dutch west coast, the 759 MW wind farm will comprise 69 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW turbines planned to be operational by 2023.
