HelWin Beta Topside Leaves Heereema's Zwijndrecht YardFrom there the topside has been transported to Schiedam for the last fabrication activities.

The HVDC topside of Tennet’s HelWin was loaded onto a seagoing barge H-542 operated by Heerema Marine Contractors on June 7.

The construction of the 10,200-ton High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) topsides started at Heerema’s Zwijndrecht yard in October 2012. The company was awarded the contract by Siemens in June 2012.

The contract comprised the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the HelWin beta platform, which included topsides, jacket and bridge.

Heereema’s Vlissingen yard built the jacket for the platform, which was recently installed at the offshore site.

The HelWin topsides measures 98 meter in length, 42 meter in width and 28 meter in height with a transmission capacity of 690 MW.

The converter platform is one of the main components of the TenneT DC offshore grid connection ‘HelWin2’.

The connection with a capacity of 690 MW will connect a large wind farm cluster in the German sector of the North Sea.
