Hexicon to Install Offshore Wind Platform (Malta)

Hexicon to Install Offshore Wind Platform (Malta)

A Swedish company is planning to install a floating platform, 480m wide, with 36 wind turbines off the coast of Malta.

Hexicon AB has submitted the project description statement (PDS) to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

Within the framework of EU Directive 2001/77 EC and the national goals of the Maltese Islands, the main objective of the proposed Hexicon Malta offshore Wind farm is to provide a long-term electricity supply to augment the regional supply of electricity by the Enemalta and decrease its dependency on fossil fuel engine generators. The development of such an activity will be able to satisfy Malta’s own fast growing energy demands, as well as its own European commitments to have a minimum of 10% renewable energy generation by 2020.

This project will have the total capacity of 54MW.
