HHLA Handles More Boxes in 2016

German terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA) has recorded a 1.5 percent increase in its annual container volume, which rose to 6.7 million TEU last year from 6.6 million TEU seen in 2015.

While the Hamburg container terminals saw a 1.1 percent rise in container throughput of 6.4 million TEU due to increases in volume in the second half of 2016, box volume at Container Terminal Odessa grew by 10.6 percent to 0.3 million TEU, the terminal operator said.

HHLA’s revenue for 2016 amounted to EUR 1.2 billion (USD 1.28 billion), compared to EUR 1.1 billion recorded in the previous year, an increase of about 3 percent.

The company’s operating result (EBIT) saw a moderate growth of around 5 percent, totaling EUR 163 million in the 2016 fiscal year compared to EUR 157 million in 2015.

Additionally, HHLA’s intermodal companies saw a 6.8 percent increase in their volume, which stood at 1.4 million TEU.

HHLA operates a total of four container terminals, including Altenwerder, Burchardkai, Tollerort and Odessa.
