Traditional Maltese fishermen bemoan loss of heritage

A number of Maltese fishermen who practice traditional fishing methods are struggling to keep the fishing heritage alive. “My father was a fisherman in his mother’s womb,” fisherman Charles Bugeja told The Times of Malta. His family boasts four generations of fishermen. Families like the Bugejas say that technological innovations in the fisheries sector may maximise catch and minimise effort, but leave a trail of devastation in the marine environment.
