Oil and gas discovery in the Oseberg area – 30/9-21 S

Press release 26/2008: StatoilHydro ASA, operator of production licence PL104, has concluded drilling of exploration well 30/9-21 S in the Oseberg area, about 7 km west of the Oseberg Sør platform. The result of the well indicates a commercial discovery in this area, in close proximity to existing fields.

The well was drilled using the floating rig Transocean Winner, and tested the potential of a structural closure with a possible fault seal near the recently installed Delta subsea template. The well encountered gas and oil in the upper parts of the Brent Group, and was concluded in Middle Jurassic rocks.

The size of the discovery is within the range of uncertainty of 2-3 MSm3 recoverable oil equivalents, where oil makes up most of the commercial volumes. The well has been plugged and abandoned, and tie-in to the facilities in the nearby area is being evaluated. The rig is now drilling 30/9-21 A to test the Upper Jurassic potential in this local area.
