Mauritania move by RWE

Hamburg-based RWE-Dea has taken a licence stake in Mauritania after signing over two onshore blocks originally held by Repsol YPF.

Germany’s RWE has taken over block TA09 and ta010 in the Taoudini Basin area 800 km (500 miles) from the Atlantic coast and 200 km (125 miles) from the border with Mali which together cover 59,814 sq. km (23,088 sq. miles).

The company says the two blocks, which are though to have high potential for gas deposits, are a good opportunity to move in Mauritania, supplementing its existing North African licence interests in Egypt, Libya, and Algeria.
