Waste dumped in wrong part of sea

An investigation has been launched after claims that dredgers licensed to dispose of waste off the Plymouth coast have dumped the material in the wrong area. Millions of tonnes of dredged material from the River Tamar has been dumped off Whitsand Bay, South East Cornwall, over the years to ensure the river is navigable for naval, commercial and leisure traffic. However, the practice has long been opposed by environmental campaigners, councillors and residents who believe it is damaging the seabed and sea life.
