Samsung Heavy Industries Co., receives orders for 14 container ships worth US$1.5 billion

Samsung Heavy Industries(SHI) on June 7 announced that it received orders for 14 container ships worth US$1.5 billion from Naviera Daniela of Panama and Danaos of Greece. These container ships consist of eight Post Panamax class ships and six Panamax class ships, and they are scheduled to be delivered to the ship owner at the end of 2009. SHI has steadily been constructing these types of containers, and expects to reduce the ship design period, enhance productivity, and reduce production costs in the construction of these ships. These container ships will run between Europe and Asia. This container ship is different from the existing ships because the safety of the head and rear part of the ship is enhanced, while it is highly economical. SHI also minimized the emission of nitrogen oxide, and uses environmentally friendly pigments. Specifically, the head and rear part of the ship is enforced so that the ship can operate safely against a 15 meter wind. Its structure is highly economical and the ship is equipped with highly efficient engine, enabling the ship to run with a single time refueling.
