Pentagon Offers Another Plan For Competition For New Destroyer

Maine lawmakers are reacting with skepticism to a new proposal by the Navy to generate competition between shipbuilders for its next-generation destroyer — the DDX.

Congress had balked at the Navy’s recent effort to shift to a winner-take-all strategy. As an alternative, Assistant Navy Secretary John Young is proposing that Maine’s Bath Iron Works and Mississippi’s Ingalls Shipyard each build one of the new ships to see which can do it better and at less cost.
