Somalia asks for help tackling pirates

Abdirashid Sharmarke, Prime Minister in Samalia’s Transitional Federal Government, says piracy off the coast of Somalia must be tackled on land as well as at sea. At a meeting with IMO Secretary-General Mr. Efthimios Mitropoulos, the Prime Minister requested assistance in halting attacks from the two main piracy networks (one in the central region of Somalia and one in Puntland) by establishing information-sharing centres for information on how the pirates operate and analysis of their money flows.
