India: “‘Chitra’ was due for scrapping”

The containership ‘MSC Chitra’, which recently collided with ‘Khalijiya-III’ at Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port in India on August 7, was due for scrapping and will soon be sent to Alang shipyard in Gujarat, India. The Panama-flagged vessel was carrying a load of 1,200 containers and the cargo contained 2,662 tonnes of fuel, 283 tonnes of diesel and 88,040 litres of lubricant oil. More than 250 containers spilled into the harbour, causing the closure of the port for several days.
