Iberdrola Achieves Highest DJSI Ranking in 12 Years (Spain)

IBERDROLA has once again been included as a member of the utilities supersector of the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2011, obtaining its highest score since it joined this ranking 12 years ago.

The company reinforced its leading position after easily beating the average score for the electricity sector and achieving the same score as EDP, the company leading this index, which has become the key reference point worldwide for assessing companies’ contributions to sustainable development.

In the latest edition of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, IBERDROLA reclaimed the top spot in the economic dimension and improved considerably in the environmental dimension thanks especially to its strategy for tackling climate change, and its biodiversity and eco-efficiency policies.

The company, which is the only utility to achieve a place in all twelve editions of this benchmark index, boasts a higher score than the sector average in all sections.

In the social dimension, IBERDROLA achieved the maximum score for its stakeholder engagement, justifying its strategy of focusing on sustainable development.

Its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2011 also highlights that the company is capable of meeting the main economic, environmental and social challenges facing energy policy in Spain and the European Union.
