IChemE Tour Ras Laffan Facilities

Qatargas recently welcomed the President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), Judith Hackitt, and provided a tour of its facilities in Ras Laffan. This was the first time the President of IChemE has visited Qatar.

Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer – Engineering & Ventures and Adnan Hassan Al-Shaibi, Learning and Development Manager welcomed the IChemE President at the Qatargas Head Office in Doha. Also present at the welcome was Qatargas employee Hessa Al Nesf, who earlier this year, became the first Qatari National to receive the internationally recognized qualification of Incorporated Engineer (IEng), and Neil Atkinson, Director of Qualifications at IChemE.

Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani said “We are very proud to be a Gold Corporate Partner with IChemE which gives Qatargas Engineering & Ventures increased recognition as a top employer in the chemical engineering community.”

Ibrahim Bawazir, Surveillance Division Manager at Qatargas, gave the visitors a tour of the Qatargas 2 plant in Ras Laffan. The tour included safety inductions and a visit to the Main Control Room as well as a meeting with coaches, mentors and National Graduates. After the QG2 plant tour, the delegation visited the Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College and Texas A&M University to meet with undergraduates and discuss process safety.

Qatargas is a Gold Corporate Partner of IChemE and shows its commitment to helping its staff continually develop through maintaining an accredited company training scheme, participation in technical and local events and professional registration. Several more Qatargas National Graduates have applied to register with IChemE and are currently on their development paths towards achieving Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.

Founded in 1922, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is the global professional membership organisation for people who have an interest in and relevant experience in chemical engineering. Currently, IChemE has around 38,000 members across 120 countries.
