Malaysia’s state-owned oil and gas giant Petronas is moving forward with the construction of its first floating LNG facility.

The PFLNG Satu is currently being built at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, South Korea.

Once completed, the FLNG will be moored in Kanowit gas field, located 180 kilometres offshore Sarawak, Malaysia and will produce 1.2 million tonnes of LNG per year.

It will play a significant role in Petronas’ efforts to unlock the gas reserves in the country’s remote and stranded fields, which had been deemed uneconomical to develop conventionally and to help meet the growing demand for gas, the company said recently in a statement.
