Innogy Kicks Off Sofia Onshore Cable Route Investigations

Geotechnics Ltd has carried out onshore cone penetration tests for innogy’s Sofia offshore wind farm in the UK.

The work was carried out at Marske-by-the-Sea, Teeside, as part of site investigation works for the project’s onshore export cable route.

Sofia, the largest project in innogy’s development portfolio, will comprise up to 200 turbines located 165km off the UK’s North East coast on Dogger Bank on a shallow area covering almost 600km2.

The 1.4GW offshore wind farm, selected in the Government’s latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) round, is expected to enter the onshore construction phase in 2021, with commissioning scheduled for 2026.

Electricity generated by the project will feed into the national grid at an existing substation located in Lackenby.
