Iran 2 Bcm of Gas to Be Stored in Shorijeh Facility, Says Official

Managing director of Natural Gas Storage Company (NGSC) said 2 billion cubic meters of gas will be stored at Shorijeh reservoir in the current Iranian calendar year, began March 21, 2013.

Massoud Samivand said as this important project in Eastern Iran is nearing completion and storing would begin soon.

“12 million cubic meters of gas would be injected to the Shorijeh gas facility per day,” he added.

Samivand said that by completing Shorijeh reservoir, which is the second economic epic in the field of storing gas in the country, Iran would claim world’s 5th place in the field of storing natural gas, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

Providing the country’s gas needs and increasing the volume of gas injected into oil fields in order to boost oil production and raise Iran’s share in the global gas market were among the strategic objectives of storing natural gas.

Realization of these objectives would place Iran in favorable position in the international arena.

“Gaining economic profits is another advantage of implementing such projects,” he said, adding that 40 out of the 220 discovered reservoirs for storing gas are exploitable.

The objective of storing 14 billion cubic meters of gas and withdrawing 130 million cubic meters per day will be realized by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan.
