Iran 80 Percent of Gas Storage Equipment made by Domestically, Says Official

Head of the Natural Gas Storage Company said 80 percent of Iran’s needed gas storage equipment are made by domestic manufactures.

Massoud Samivand told Shana that domestic manufacturers supplied about 40 percent of the equipments required for injection of gas and 80 percent of refinery equipments of the first natural gas storage project, Serajeh gas storage facility.

“Manufacturing and indigenization of a major chunk of the equipments required for building the first natural gas storage facility in the country as well as cooperation of some academic centers such as Sharif Technical University were taken into consideration in line with self-sufficiency efforts in the construction of first natural gas storage project,” he said.

“Nobody would believe in the past that given the limitations imposed on Iran, the country would be able to have some achievements in the field of gas storage.”

However, he said, today, the first gas storage project has put its first year behind and the second project has been launched.

All stages of designing, manufacturing, construction and implementation of the 10-million cubic meters storage facility in Qom were carried out by the Iranian experts, he said adding that once the experts of the country succeed in completing a project from designing to launching it, it means they have achieved self-sufficiency in this area.

He ensured that the contribution of domestic manufacturers would increase in the future projects, for they will rely on their accomplishments in the Shorijeh project.

The Shorijeh gas storage facility is capable of storing 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas in the first phase and 3.3 cubic meters in the second phase.
