Iran to Build its First Oil Spill Recovery Vessel

Iran plans to  invest up to $35 million to build its very first oil spill recovery vessel, Zawya reported.

The vessel, which will be one of the biggest of its kind in the Middle East is expected to bear the responsibility of dealing with any oil spillage and pollution in the Persian Gulf.

Iran Shipbuilding & Offshore Industries Complex Co. will  build the oil-recovery vessel in cooperation with Norwegian experts.

The Persian Gulf and its coastal areas are the world’s largest single source of crude oil and related industries dominate the region, but its ecology has come under pressure from industrialization, and in particular, oil and petroleum spillages.
